A bridge that connects the past and the present
| Historical Story |
During Japan’s isolationist period, only one bridge was connected to Dejima Island. The latest culture and technologies of the time made its way across this bridge. It was rebuilt for the first time in 130 years under Dejima’s restoration and maintenance plan.
▲A riverside park that wraps around Dejima Omotemonbashi (Main Gate bridge). A permanent canopy and wooden deck make the area a great event space.
Dejima Omotemonbashi (Main Gate bridge) is 38.5 meters long and 4.4 meters wide. It connects Dejima to Edo-machi. The contemporary design and engineering is an eye-catching connection between the past and the present . Main Gate Bridge Park is located on the opposite bank of Dejima island, with easy access to the harbor, tourist facilities, and downtown areas. It is a much loved place to relax for tourists and citizens alike.
