Shianbashi Yokocho

A small side street that lights up the night sky,
a great local and lively Japanese atmosphere.

| Historical Story |

Shianbashi, which used to lead to Maruyama, one of Japan’s major Geisha headquarter, has been busy since ancient times. “Shian” means “thinking” and they say that Shianbashi got its name as the point where men would consider returning to the Geisha headquarter.

▲The Shianbashi area has been a bustling place in Nagasaki for a long time. Enjoy a retro, local touch only found in a small side street.

As one of the best downtown areas in Nagasaki, Shianbashi is bustling to this day. Shianbashi Yokocho, right next to the entrance, is a street lined with more than 60 establishments. The street with a great open air atmosphere can be reserved for an event or function. When the sun goes down and the lanterns are lit the lively ambiance is unforgettable.
